Park Valley Road is scheduled to close Friday, July 20 in order to begin construction to replace the bridge over Sligo Creek and provide improvements to Sligo Creek Hiker/Biker Trail nearby, a representative of the county’s Department of Transportation confirmed.

The project, budgeted at $3.95 million, will replace a bridge originally built in 1931 with a wider bridge and sidewalk.

The trail will be realigned and include a new 12-foot wide pedestrian bridge over Sligo Creek, plus a new trail to connect the bridge with the existing trail.

A new natural-surface pedestrian trail also will be added alongside the hard-surface trail, while a parking lot to the northwest of the bridge will be removed, according to plans.

Construction is expected to be done by the fall/winter of 2019.
