  • María Elena Walsh was an Argentine writer, poet, and singer who entertained generations of children with whimsical songs and books. Like all children in Argentina, local performers and educators Cecilia Esquivel and Laura Quiroga grew up with Walsh’s music. In this heartfelt tribute, the performers imagine the adventures of the famous Mono Liso as he searches for his wandering orange. In his journey, Mono Liso encounters many of Walsh’s other characters and joins them in song. Children will sing, act, and dance in this bilingual interactive show for the whole family, which features musical arrangements by Dani Cortaza.

Esquivel is a versatile singer who specializes in Brazilian music, American jazz, and South American folk music. Quiroga is an experienced director, choreographer, dancer, and teacher originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She taught movement, ballet, and drama for 25 years at the Washington International School and has a long legacy of directing and performing in local theater, including Gala Hispanic Theater, Capital Fringe Festival, and the Kennedy Center.

Cortaza is a guitarist who specializes in Brazilian music and Latin jazz, and he performs, composes, and arranges Latin American folk music.
