The founders of a new urban agriculture nonprofit in Montgomery County will discuss life and work at the Koiner Farm in downtown Silver Spring, and their mission to steward and manage urban farms across the county for the purpose of hands-on STEM education.
Our presenter, Kate Medina, is Founder and Director of Education at The Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming. CKC Farming (as it’s known) is a new nonprofit in Montgomery County, Maryland that aims to inspire local food innovators through greater access to urban farms. CKC Farming operates at Koiner Farm in downtown Silver Spring.
Koiner Farm is owned by Mr. Charles Koiner, now 98. CKC Farming provides support to Charles as he continues to farm his 1-acre plot and assists his daughter Lynn in fulfilling her vision of maintaining the property as a working farm in perpetuity.
