Justice Arts Coalition amplifies work of incarcerated artists with inaugural online exhibition, Inside & Out: Photorealists to Minimalists

SILVER SPRING, MD – With so many art shows canceled in the past year, the Justice Art Coalition (JAC) is excited to announce its inaugural online exhibition. The ability to continue to provide a platform for artists in and around the carceral system and reach audiences virtually beyond the DC area is an incredible opportunity.

The show will run online until April 22 with events to coincide scattered throughout. Guests can use the 3D virtual gallery feature to get a sense of the size and presence of a piece.

Inside & Out: Photorealists to Minimalists features work from over 30 artists, nearly half are currently incarcerated. The other artists are independent, formerly incarcerated, or are teaching artists who work to facilitate art programming inside detention centers. The work ranges from abstract paintings to computer-animated video units and everything in between with over 70 pieces of work.

JAC unites teaching artists, arts advocates, currently and formerly incarcerated artists, and allies, harnessing the transformative power of the arts to reimagine justice. Through the sharing of resources, stories, and learning opportunities, JAC is building a nationwide collective of people who are committed to increasing opportunities for creative expression in carceral settings, amplifying the voices of those most impacted by mass incarceration, and shaping public dialogue around the intersection of the arts and justice.

At a time of global crisis, the artists have generously donated some or all of the profits from the sale of their original work. JAC has found support in their network of artists both inside and out.
Proceeds will help to sustain JAC’s mission to harness the transformative power of the arts to reimagine justice.
