Who among us has not, at one time or another, felt like an outsider with no family or friends to offer comfort and guidance? Imagine being the unwanted stranger in a new country as Lumina reimagines Shakepeare’s Cymbeline as IMOGEN UNDERGROUND!
Set in a future London, the streets are wild with floods of immigrants fleeing civil war, and the gangs of hooligans who seek to drive them out. Mayor Cymbeline declares London a sanctuary city, and riots ensue. Imogen, privileged and oblivious to the societal changes around her, defies her father and secretly marries the outsider Leon who is then banished for his part in the deception.
Imogen travels to the Underground to pursue her Leon. However, when Leon believes the whispered lies of infidelity from the evil Iachimo and attempts to have her killed, Imogen finds herself abandoned and homeless. Taken in by poor strangers in Underground, she learns the lessons of a more challenging, but wiser, life. With an almost fairy tale plot of “evil stepmother,” handsome prince, and helpful scavengers in the “forest” of the underground, IMOGEN UNDERGROUND tells a timeless story of trials, forgiveness, the magic of friendship, new-found siblings, and all coming right in the end with a more meaningful marriage of family and community.
