This weekend, leading into the holidays, features parties and live music including songs of the season and a community sing (both on Saturday) in Takoma Park, along with bands at the Takoma Park VFW and Silver Strings, a new restaurant/bar in downtown Silver Spring. And next Friday is the D.C. Blues Society’s monthly happy hour at the American Legion.
One of Silver Spring’s major downtown office tenants will remain in its Georgia Avenue location despite being purchased earlier this year. Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. has renewed and extended its long-term lease at Washington Property Company’s Silver Spring Plaza building, according to an announcement by WPC.
A group of local residents has opened Fullfillery, a store in Takoma Park catering to those who are interested in the concept of sustainable shopping. “We each had an idea that we wanted bulk sustainable shopping available,” said Lauren Chitwood Schauf, a Woodside Forest resident who manages the store. “It’s popping up in England, it’s popping up in New York, it’s popping up in California, but it was very conspicuously absent from D.C.”
Mandalay Restaurant and Café will move from its Bonifant Street location to Georgia Avenue in Washington, D.C., according to an announcement on the outlet’s Facebook page. The family-owned restaurant specializes in Burmese cuisine and has operated in Silver Spring since 2005 after moving from College Park.
