Mom Prom This Friday Will Raise Funds for Y Programs

Moms of all types will dress their best and head for the Silver Spring Civic Building Friday night for Mom Prom “Pretty in Pink!” to raise money for the YMCA’s Youth and Family Services program. Mom Prom was started at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church in Canton, Mich. in 2006 as a ladies night out to dress up and raise funds for charity. Park Police Investigating Alleged Embezzlement from Foundation

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police are investigating an alleged case of embezzlement from the Montgomery Parks Foundation, according Lt. Jeffrey Coe, public information officer for the Montgomery County division of the park police. There has not yet been an arrest in the case, Coe said, which the department estimated involves five or six figures. “It’s still under investigation,” Coe said. “We haven’t got the exact amounts yet.” An employee of the Maryland-National Park and Planning Commission assigned to support the foundation was described as a “person of interest” in the case, according to an earlier statement from the police....

Arts Council Wins NEA Grant to Add to Works on Paper Collection

The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County will be adding to the Montgomery County Contemporary Works On Paper Collection thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Art Works Grant Program. The collection is part of the county’s public art collection, which currently includes more than 550 prints, drawings and watercolors from regional artists. THE NEA awarded AHCMC a $25,000 Art Works grant that “will purchase and frame two-dimensional artworks on paper acquired from regional artists and galleries through a juried call-for-art process opening this spring,” according to the AHCMC announcement. “In 1975, the Montgomery County Works...
