Community kitchen to give small entrepreneurs a boost

Arts center offering creative camps for kids when schools are closed

With area schools now in session, CREATE Arts Center in Silver Spring is once again offering parents a creative care alternative with “No School Day Camps” on days when schools are not open. The camps for 6- to 14-year-olds are scheduled for more than 20 days on holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Veterans Day, as well as teacher conference days, professional development days and others. Local restaurants raising funds for hurricane relief

Black Restaurant Group, which includes Republic in Takoma Park, has added a hurricane donation line to each guest check to collect relief funds. Artist spaces coming to former police headquarters

While there have been delays, new artist spaces and housing will be coming to 801 Sligo Ave. on the property where the former 3rd District Police Headquarters was located. The holdup has been the financing, said Heidi Zimmer, senior vice president, property development for Artspace. “We applied for a nine percent tax credit last fall, in October.
