Health department offering free vaccinations for students

Photo from Wikimedia Commons. The Department of Health and Human Services is offering free vaccinations this month to help ensure students are in compliance with certain state requirements. These walk-in clinics are for students entering grades 7, 8, 9 and 10 who need proof of vaccinations against Tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) and Meningococcal meningitis (MCV4) before the 2017-2018 school year starts. Students who are not in compliance with these requirements will not be allowed to attend school until they provide documentation of Tdap and MCV immunizations. Middle school remodeling project underway

Photo by Mike Diegel/Source of the Spring Construction has begun on a remodeling project for the Silver Spring International Middle School at 313 Wayne Ave. The project is a space conversion to accommodate an increased enrollment from the current 1,045 students, according to the school system’s Department of Public Information and Web Services. The projected enrollment for 2017-18 is 1,066 students and the school’s capacity is 1,085. Enrollment is expected to be 1,185 in the 2020-21 school year, according to the MCPS Downcounty Consortium Capital Improvements Plan.
