CommUNITY Holiday Tree Lit in Downtown Silver Spring

The year’s holiday CommUNITY Tree was lit Saturday night on the Fountain Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring. The tree was once again designed by Karl Unnasch, who has created the Re-Imagining the Holidays art installation for the past six years, along with a partner, Michael Cimino, and three local artists—Michelle Izquierdo, Vanessa Smith and Erick Satchell II. The 35-foot tall installation is topped by a mobile sculpture, and additional mobiles are installed in the breezeway from the Wayne Avenue garage. All Ages Attended Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk

About 50 people braved the fall’s first blustery streak last Saturday to sing and carry lanterns across the Talbot Avenue Bridge in the inaugural Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk. North Woodside resident Anna White conceived the event as a way to build off of the momentum achieved during September’s centennial celebration for the bridge. Working with neighbors, artist Bertie LoPiccolo and educator Kate Elliot, White organized a morning lantern-making workshop at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Center.
