Pepco Meeting Tonight on New Infrastructure Project

A community meeting will be held tonight (Nov. 28) to discuss another phase of Pepco’s efforts to upgrade its infrastructure in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park service area. Expected to start construction shortly, this phase will include installation of three underground lines connecting the Sligo substation on Cameron Street with the Linden substation near the intersection of Montgomery Street and Fraser Avenue. Board Authorizes Execution of Purple Line Construction MOU

The county Board of Education this week authorized Superintendent Jack Smith to execute a memorandum of understanding with the Maryland Transit Administration regarding Purple Line construction. The MOU covers issues at the Silver Spring International Middle School and the Sligo Creek Elementary School, located along Wayne Avenue. Ceremonial Groundbreaking Held for Silver Spring Arts Campus

About 100 residents joined county officials and others yesterday for a ceremonial groundbreaking of the Silver Spring Arts Campus on the site of the former 3rd District police headquarters at 801 Sligo Ave. Minneapolis-based Artspace spearheads the project, which has built 50 similar projects iincluding Brookland in Washington, D.C. and Mount Rainier. Pepco Work to Close Portion of Fenton Street Beginning Thursday

A Pepco contractor is scheduled to start work that will cause the closure of Fenton Street from New York Avenue to Takoma Avenue beginning Thursday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m., according to an email circulated by Dr. Brad Stewart, Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus vice president and provost. Maryland Transit Administration graphic Residents in the area near the construction of the Plymouth Street tunnel from Wayne Avenue to Arliss Street can expect blasting to begin next week, according to a notice from the Purple Line Transit Partners. “Rock conditions vary in the tunnel area and the team strives to control blasting to only when needed,” the notice said.
