Construction on Solaire II Expected to Begin in November

Construction on the Solaire Silver Spring II luxury apartment project in the Ripley District is targeted for a Nov. 1 start, according to Charles Nulsen III, president of the project’s developer, Washington Property Co. The building will be located next to the current Solaire Silver Spring at 1150 Ripley St., near the Metro tracks. Plans call for up to 420 apartments, approximately 18,000 square feet of retail space and six levels of aboveground parking. Solaire 8250 Georgia will open for tenants May 13, according to Charles Nulsen III, president of the project’s developer, Washington Property Co. “We started pre-leasing the first of February and the project’s been very well received, and we have close to 100 pre-leases in the building as of [April 24] in a 340-unit project,” Nulsen said. Thayer-Spring Public Parking Garage Now Open

The county’s Thayer-Spring public parking garage opened this morning in Fenton Village. Also known as Garage #3, the below-grade facility is located at 913 Silver Spring Ave., under the new Thayer&Spring apartment development. The garage includes 115 long-term parking spaces, 40 short-term (under four hours) spaces, six ADA-compliant spaces, eight spaces for motorcycles and 28 for bicycles. The cost is $.70 per hour and payment is required from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., though the facility is open 24/7; a vehicle cannot be parked in the garage more than 14 days in a row. New Lyttonsville Place Bridge Now Open

The rebuilt Lyttonsville Place Bridge between Lyttonsville and Brookville roads has been opened by the Purple Line Transit Partners. For the time being, the span will carry one lane of traffic in each direction, along with an area for pedestrians. Later this year, PLTP crews will complete the bridge to include sidewalks, drop-off lanes and access to the planned Lyttonsville Station and Capital Crescent Trail. State Plans to Resurface Portion of Colesville Road

The Maryland State Highway Administration plans to resurface about one mile of Colesville Road (U.S. Route 29) from Georgia Avenue to St. Andrews Way, according to a recent press release. A contractor will patch, mill, pave and restripe the road. In addition, crews will install concrete bus pads to preserve pavement, do any needed cleaning and repairs of storm water systems, upgrade sidewalk ramps to meet ADA standards, and add concrete curbs and gutters.
