Walking Tours of Silver Spring Public Art Scheduled

Art aficionados who live or work in Silver Spring can take a walking tour of the area’s public art on several Thursday evenings this spring and summer. “Appetizers and Art,” organized by the Silver Spring Regional Services Center, Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District, Silver Spring Urban District, and Montgomery Planning, will offer an inside look at art works, beginning with a tour of Silver Spring murals. CREATE Arts to Hold First Fundraising Gala This Spring

CREATE Arts Center, the Silver Spring-based provider of arts education and therapy services, will hold its first-ever fundraising gala this spring, according to Linda Marson Cox, the group’s executive director. More Than 110 Units Set to March in Thanksgiving Parade

More than 110 units will participate in the annual Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade in Silver Spring Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-noon. The marchers will begin at the corner of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street, continue down Ellsworth to turn south on Georgia Avenue, and end at Silver Spring Avenue. Units will include college and high school marching bands, Thanksgiving- and Christmas-themed floats, performances by the Maryland Youth Ballet and Princess Mhoon Dance Institute, South American musical groups and 12-foot inflatables, including a turkey, a dinosaur and a penguin. Gandhi Brigade to Premiere Newest Student-Produced Documentary

Gandhi Brigade Youth Media will present the world premiere of the organization’s latest student-produced documentary, which looks youth activism and is titled “We Are Now.” The free showing will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus Cultural Arts Center at 7995 Georgia Ave. During a five-week period over the past summer, eight high school students conceived, planned and produced the film.
