The Thai Market and Carryout at 902 Thayer Ave. will shut its doors when its current lease expires June 30, said owner Peter Gosak. Gosak took over the store in 1997. He is the third owner of the market, which originally opened about 35 years ago, he said. Silver Spring’s newest restaurant, Lina’s Diner and Bar, will officially open Tuesday, May 30. “We opened up last Thursday, so this entire run, Thursday through Saturday is what we consider our soft open,” said Juancarlo Parkhurst. “We’ll be closed for the Monday holiday and then we’ll start Tuesday with lunch, dinner as well as happy hour.” Parkhurst started cooking in college about 20 years ago to pay the bills, he said. Memorial Day schedules announced

Memorial Day is Monday, May 29. Photo from Wikimedia Commons. Memorial Day schedules for the county and several local businesses have been announced. All county offices and libraries, along with Montgomery County schools and administrative offices, will be closed in recognition of the holiday, which honors those who died while serving in the armed forces. The Recreation Department’s administrative offices, senior centers and community recreation centers also will be closed.
