Construction is underway in a former Staples store on Georgia Avenue with an eye toward opening an ALDI grocery store before the end of the year, according to Frederick division vice president Jeff Baehr. “The new Silver Spring store will have five aisles and about 12,500 square feet of selling space, as is typical for new ALDI stores,” Baehr said via email. Mixed-use development close to being finished

Central, the mixed-use apartment development under construction at the corner of Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street (8455 Fenton Street), is close to being finished. “The project is nearing completion,” said Jon Carr, senior vice president of Grosvenor Americas, who is managing the development team. “We should be done in late June, July.” The Bozzuto Group, which is part of the development team, will manage the property once construction is complete. The Thai Market and Carryout at 902 Thayer Ave. will shut its doors when its current lease expires June 30, said owner Peter Gosak. Gosak took over the store in 1997.
