Main Street Pearl to Hold Grand Opening Friday in Takoma Park

Main Street Pearl, which advertises itself as a bubbly bar, noshery and tuck shop, will have its grand opening from 3–7 p.m. Friday, March 12 at 7050 Carroll Ave. in Takoma Park. The women-owned space offers bubble tea, kombucha on tap, mocktails, sparkling wine, beer, hard cider and other drinks at the bubbly bar.

Takoma Park Police Investigating Strong-Arm Carjacking

Takoma Park police are investigating a strong-arm carjacking that took place last night in the 200 block of Ethan Allen Avenue, near the Takoma Park Silver Spring Food Co-op. According to a community advisory, the police responded to the incident at about 8:45 p.m.

Producer Seeks Hosts for Second Season of YardWork Concerts

The music director of WOWD Takoma Radio is looking for host venues as he plans to bring back the YardWork series of pandemic-safe jazz concerts for a second season beginning in April. Michael Phillips produced 54 outdoor, COVID-safe concerts in local people’s yards last year and, with nice weather on the way, is looking to do it again.

Health Organization Expands Effort to Encourage Residents to Get COVID–19 Test

The African American Health Program has expanded its effort to encourage the county’s Black residents to get tested for the COVID-19 virus. The organization is partnering with Black faith organizations such as the Islamic Society of the Washington Area and Black Greek letter organizations like Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity to help reach the targeted communities.

Council Seeking Applicants for Planning Board Vacancy

The County Council has announced it is looking for applicants for an upcoming vacancy on the Planning Board. Commissioner Tina Patterson’s term ends June 14 and she has indicated that she will apply for another term. Applications to fill the position are due no later than March 23 at 5 p.m.
